It’s that time of year when many of us turn our heads to a new start, a new term and a chance to catch up on jobs around the house now there’s a little more time.
Perhaps it’s an opportunity to take stock of where you are: thinking of moving? You could be in your new house for Christmas! Take some time to get your ducks in a row. We’re happy to chat things through and manage the sales process to suit your schedule, taking it slowly – or as quickly – as necessary.
In the interim, have a think about how to best present your house. Our top tips of what works well are:
- Garden: chop back faded plants, overhanging trees, cut back any plants that may affect the light in your house. Sweep up leaves, tidy the wood store, put away & tidy outdoor furniture. Plant up a couple of planters by the front door and create a welcome.
- Garage: an impossible task but try to clear it so that viewers can get an idea of space.
- House: declutter! We’re all guilty of hoarding and having lots of ornaments on display but try to pare things back and allow viewers to see the room, not be distracted by your best china. Be as minimalist as you can and keep furniture to the minimum. Touch up any scuffs on paintwork.
- During viewings: Psychology, psychology: Make sure your log burner is lit to create a cosy feel. Some swear by the ‘loaf of bread in the oven’ trick to create that homely smell. Ensure your kitchen and bathrooms are clean and tidy and that pots are in the dishwasher! Switch on any bedside or table lamps to create atmosphere – particularly if your rooms are dark. A cheerful vase of flowers always goes down well.
We know it all sounds really obvious – but you’ll be surprised at the impact just a few small changes can make – and a good declutter may result in a higher offer too!
