Tenant Fees Ban

23rd January 2019

The Tenant Fees Bill is now moving quickly and is set to come into place later this year, meaning Letting Agents can no longer charge fees to tenants who would like to let a property. With this in mind, many agents around the country will be feeling the pressure and reviewing their fees to landlords.

Here at Armitstead Barnett we are more than prepared for this change in legislation. As we have never charged tenants a large fee, we are able to adapt to this change quickly.

From mid-January we will stop charging tenants fees completely. We will of course, continue to provide a high level of service to landlords and tenants and are also of the opinion that the ban will clean up the industry allowing the strong professional agents like ourselves, to thrive.

In 2019 we expect more changes to legislation for landlords; one being electrical safety inspections. Armitstead Barnett currently requests an electrical safety inspection for all rental properties as best practice. This however is not currently a legal requirement and not all agents do the same. We expect this to become a legal requirement in the not too distant future and we welcome this change.

As a member of the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) and as an RICS accredited firm, Armitstead Barnett always ensures that we provide the best possible service, being fair and transparent always. We offer a professional yet personal service, building positive relationships throughout tenancies to encourage successful tenancies for both the Landlord and Tenant. If you would like assistance with letting a property or are looking to change agents for property management, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our Lettings Department.
