This unique property is entered through a secret garden gate.
The designer of the garden, Thomas Mawson, was the favoured landscape gardener of the early 20th century. He had commissions all over Britain and overseas with clients including Lord Leverhulme, a Maharajah of India, Queen Alexandra of Denmark, the King of Greece and multiple cities in Canada. He founded the Institute of Landscape Architecture.
Mawsons techniques of using the local landscape and geology mean this garden sits perfectly in natural limestone for which this area is famous.
Huge limestone walls buttressing the enormous terraces sit beside large areas of limestone pavement and beautiful cultivated lawns and gardens. The natural bedrock is further enhanced with the original Mawson stone work.
Interspersed throughout the grounds are additional buildings including a large workshop with power and a natural living roof. This building has the potential to form a home office or further accommodation subject to the usual consents.
There are also two further buildings for storage, firewood and machinery, one of which has a sedum roof.
The large open area in the orchard is bounded by mature woodland which extends into the national Trust on the east and north sides.
This area stands naturally separate from the remainder of the garden giving the opportunity to build an additional property here, (subject to planning consent), with minimal impact on the garden.
Situated centrally within the grounds is the original stone built summer house providing one bedroom accommodation.
It is small but perfectly formed and has been renovated by the owner using unique design and materials to maximise both the outlook and its environment credentials.
Set within the Arnside and Silverdale area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the village is known for its fantastic location, tranquil environment and thriving community.
Silverdale offers a range of essential amenities, including a primary school, post office, village store, butcher, garage and several pubs and cafes. There are excellent connections to the A6 and M6 for travel to the nearby Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, and good public transport with a station. Carnforth, on the west coast main line from London is five miles away.
Positioned on the shore of Morecambe Bay, the landscape is a patchwork of rolling hills, woodland and the ever-changing tidal reaches.
Planning permission has been granted to extend the house by 81m2 to provide a spacious 3 bedroom property, making the most of the stunning views over the bay.
