Standalone Capital Grant Applications: An Overview

28th October 2024

Standalone capital grants SCG aim to help farmers and land managers cover the cost of items that deliver specific environmental benefits.  Applications are open all year around and agreements are for a period of 3 years.  Within these three years you must carry out the works and payment and then make a claim.

Capital grants are split into four different categories:

  • boundaries, trees and orchards

e.g. stone wall restoration, hedgerow gapping up / laying / planting new hedges.

  • water quality

e.g. concrete yard renewal, sheep netting, rain water goods

  • air quality

e.g. automatic slurry scrapers

  • natural flood management

e.g. leaky woody dams

Within the four categories are 76 capital items available to apply for and there is currently no cap on the total value of capital items claimed for.  Some items require the consent from a Catchment Sensitive Farming advisor (CSFA).  Capital grants can be used to support existing or new sustainable farming incentive (SFI) applications alongside other funding schemes providing items are compatible.
