As we move into the colder months, we have set out some tips to ensure that you and your property are as well prepared as possible.
The climate we live in means moisture often gets trapped in our homes, ensuring proper ventilation and heating will help to avoid this.
- Always use your ventilation systems when cooking, showering, or producing excess moisture. Most simply, opening windows and using extractor fans regularly supports this.
- Ensure that your ventilation systems are clean and clear of any blockages. Check all your windows open and extractors are not blocked with dust or debris.
- Most windows are also equipped with vents these days, leaving them open won’t make your house as cold as a fully open window, but will massively help to ventilate without compromising safety.
- Check the areas that are poorly ventilated for mould and damp regularly – if you can, make sure your furniture isn’t touching the walls so that air can easily move around your belongings.
- Set your heating to come on at regular intervals, this helps prevent extreme changes in temperatures that allow damp and mould to fester.
- If you do spot any excess moisture or even mould spores, clean these surfaces often to stop the spread.
