Informal Tender vs Public Auction

29th October 2026

When selling land or rural property, there are several methods of sale available, each with their own advantages depending on the property, the local market and the seller’s objectives.

Two of the most common methods for land or unique property are Informal Tender and Public Auction.

Informal Tender (often referred to as sealed bids) involves inviting interested parties to submit their best offer by a set deadline. The seller can then compare all offers received, taking into account not only the price offered, but also factors such as funding arrangements, conditions and timescales.

Public Auction is an open and transparent method of sale where buyers bid against one another in an auction room. When the hammer falls, contracts are exchanged immediately, providing a greater level of certainty for both buyer and seller.

Both methods work well for the sale of land and property, and the best approach will depend on the seller’s objectives, the property itself and local market conditions at the time of sale. Choosing the right method can influence outcomes and values, so seeking professional advice and early preparation is essential.

With our next auction taking place on Tuesday 10th November, and a number of tender deadlines approaching over the coming days and weeks, now is a great time for buyers to review the opportunities currently available and register their interest in good time.

See below for some of the properties we currently have available by these methods of sale:
