Lancashire County Council , “LCC”, are currently working on a major new road network in the South Lancaster area, with the plans appearing to continue at full pace. The newly proposed South Lancaster Link Road is set to provide a new highway, bypassing Galgate village and connecting the proposed Bailrigg Garden Village (south Lancaster) with the existing road infrastructure, including the A6 and M6.
The County Council’s cabinet have proposed their ‘Central 1’ option regarding the new road route, which illustrates the new road travelling between Galgate and the M6 motorway. The scheme includes a Park and Ride facility at Hazlerigg Lane and would involve travelling under the West Coast Mainline to access the proposed Bailrigg development area in the West. LCC have recently conducted a Public Consultation exercise between 2nd March – 22nd March 2023. This consultation included the publication of scheme drawings, descriptions of the proposed scheme, plans illustrating working areas, options for bridge designs and landscaping designs. The consultation allowed the public to raise comments and questions regarding the proposed scheme. LCC are currently reviewing the consultation feedback, with a view to submitting a planning application for the project in summer 2023. Based on the current timeframes and subject to planning matters and Compulsory Purchase requirements, construction of the project is projected to start in approximately spring 2025.
