Our Cumbria team hosted a successful public auction on Tuesday 24th March 2026, held at The Gilpin Bridge Inn, Levens.
We were delighted to offer a substantial block of agricultural land extending to approximately 93.09 acres, forming part of Low Newton Farm at Newton in Cartmel. The land was divided into six lots, comprising a mix of meadow and pasture land together with two agricultural buildings. The Lots ranged in size from 1.63 acres, up to 35.02 acres.
The auction room was full, attracting strong attendance from agricultural purchasers, alongside buyers with equestrian and amenity interests. Competitive bidding was seen throughout the evening, with a broad range of parties actively competing and helping to drive values to good levels.
Lots 1 to 3 were offered individually with Lots 4, 5 and 6 initially offered individually, before being combined and offered to the room as a whole. Following competitive bidding, Lot 2 (2.56 acres) and Lot 3 (1.63 acres) sold separately, whilst Lots 4, 5 and 6 lots ultimately sold as a single block extending to 71.41 acres.
The land achieved values ranging from £11,000 to £11,500 per acre for the agricultural land and up to £23,000 per acre for the amenity land.
The auction demonstrated the strength of the rural land market, despite external pressures, with well-located and accessible parcels continuing to generate strong demand. Smaller blocks remain highly sought after, while larger holdings continue to appeal to established farming businesses looking to expand. The event attracted a wide range of local farmers and lifestyle purchasers, reflecting continued demand for productive and versatile rural land in the area.
